Should You Quit Internet Marketing?

Fri, 12 March 2010 in General, ecommerce

There’s been a lot of questions about whether I’m really quitting Internet Marketing. Well, there’s two answers to that. In many ways, I already have quit Internet Marketing as I focus more on My Hobby Commerce site and less on Internet Marketing. But that really started a year ago. That doesn’t mean that I’ll abandon you and all my other loyal subscribers. I’m still dedicated to your success and want you to be able to achieve that. I will keep letting you know about all the marketing tactics I’ve learned and the best sources of education that I think will help you build your internet business. But it probably does mean that I won’t be releasing any new products myself. My most recent product, MyHobbyCommerce.com, will most likely be my last.

Why am I moving away from teaching Internet Marketing and towards ecommerce? Quite simply I think this past recession has shown that it’s the best move to make. The recession hit internet marketing hard. In fact, (you’ve probably never heard this from any of the Gurus) it seems that many Internet Marketers felt the effects of the recession months before it was mainstream news. We saw things slowing down but at the time it seemed like just a lull in the market. Fortunately, I was ready to move on to something else and did. I started a HobbyCommerce site and really haven’t looked back.

You see, teaching Internet Marketing niche, is a volatile market. Meaning it can have huge swings up and down and is easily effected by very small changes from within and outside of the market. And quite honestly, most people, including myself, don’t have the stomach for it. I’d choose a stable and growing business over that any day of the week and I have. In my opinion, the best move to make is to build a business outside of internet marketing all together. And I don’t just say that for the newbies out there, I say that for the gurus out there too. In fact, if you pay attention to many of the emails going out, many gurus are pulling out of Internet Marketing and moving towards other markets or just offering services. If your business is already outside of Internet Marketing, good for you. If you are currently running an business teaching Internet Marketing, I highly recommend that you look for a secondary and less sporadic Business to start on the side.

If you haven’t started your business yet, the internet is still the best place in the world to build a business and a recession is a great time to build it! It forces you to be smarter and allows you to get the edge on your competition who are struggling to maintain what they built before the recession. But I highly recommend you stay away from Internet Marketing niche. And if you haven’t considered it already, a Hobby Commerce site is where I’ve moved and I’m doing amazingly well and having a ton of fun doing it.

To be honest, I think that Internet marketing products are still the best selling and the biggest market on the web even through the recession times.

All over the web you see the Gurus and newbies selling or promoting the next best thing in IM, all the affiliate sites like clickbank shows that the IM products have the highest gravity(sales) and I mean really higher than all the others, every Guru or newbie is selling “ways to make money”.

Why would they go thru the Time, Effort and money to give away their success for an email address or a few $$$? Well of course they would cuase thats how they made their fortunes and will continue to do so.

oh before I continue my rant…. I don’t mean to bring down this post or newbies for that fact, since i enjoyed reading it and you blog, I am just speaking my mind :). And hope to start the some comments rolling.

I agree that Internet Marketing niche is probably not the only niche making money and it isn’t for everyone, and its getting pretty tough with the recession times and larger competition , but its the niche where everyone is focusing, example: I did a short study of a popular IM forums and top selling Gurus and affiliates, and my studies shows that the marketers that are making money (90%) is in the IM niche. And that other niches have very little chance of getting close to the conversation and traffic that IM has.

And what are these marketers selling, IM products, maybe there is hope elsewhere. But to me and from a business point of view, Gurus spending thousand on e-mails, websites, videos, e-books just to tell you how they made their fortunes for a few dollars, is a bit ridiculous but seems to sell. Why would they even think of setting up a guide or video if they where making these large sums elsewhere outside the IM scene, they could have used that time to grow their existing business? Well that is what I would do.

My point is that every one on the internet that has proof of success or a solid business is in the IM scene or very closely related or have at least one solid business in the IM niche.

Hey Matthew, part of being a great businessman is recognizing when opportunity is knocking on your door and quickly opening it. I think this is exactly what you’re doing with this move.. Congratulations!

Internet marketing requires great tactics. MyHobbyCommerce.com, sounds great, it seems it will provide huge enjoyment and fun to me. It is true that recession had hit the internet marketing the most. Internet is the best place to start the business. It is because the penetration of internet in the present arena is more than anything else.
