I will pass this along - especially to my partner. How right you are. Not many people understand business details.

Matthew, Hello!
This was a very good post. Having had my own offline business for many years before I retired, believe me I know where your coming from.
Being a follower of yours for the past two years I have seen your growth and your professionalism shows through in most everything you do.
I am working on that very information you touched on above since my years of experience lend credibility to the subject.
I will send you this info when complete, which will be sometime in May. I am currently retired, taking some action to supplement the retirement income via
IM (which is a whole different ball game)!
Anyway, enough babble…good post!
And, you have built a solid foundation. It will serve you well…Plan for that new car!
So true, my friend, but anyway, it seems that runing a business in online marketing, is still the easiest way to manage & marketing a business….
There are small hotels, or other business that they don’t make hundreds of thousands per year, but still their “offline business” can be more difficult to run than an online one.
As John Reese was saying in his Report “The Rebirth of Internet Marketing”, starting a business online, is nowadays the easiest way to enter and grow fast (as you were doubling every year).
Keep up the good stuff,
Luca The 1Million1Year Guy.

Matthew, Hello again!
I wanted to put a couple of words in your post comments here for anyone just starting out. “Planning and Patience”.
Have a written plan with specific reachable goals that can be accomplished at set intervals time wise. Don’t believe all the hype of overnight riches.
know your budget, stick to it and make sure you account for: start up capital, working capital (everyday expenses like
PC, software, systems, advertising, outsourcing, licenses, legal business structure and accounting fees.
Patience is what you will need to persevere
until you gain all the knowledge and resources just in the start up stage.
Then once you have all those things in place, you will need patience (it does take time) to begin drawing customers to your
business product or service.
Plan to succeed and have the patience to follow through with each action you take.
And, if it doesn’t produce realistic results, find ouy why? Tweak it and do it again until you get it right. Once you get it right, your on your way!
I must say you are the most honest and open and realistic person (not to mention FUN) that I’ve encountered in my quest to reposition my business on the internet.
I’ve enjoyed watching you grow and I only wish I had given every dollar I ever spent online to you and that I were better capitalized to begin with.
Thanks for keeping it real and honestly and accurately showing us a true example of beginning an sustaining a business that can be counted on.
Thanks again for the initial interview you did with me to use as an optin giveaway.
It still stands the true test of time in spite of all of the recent changes online.
How right you are. Running a business is a major undertaking. To stay in business you have to do it right, that means everything, book-keeping, records, taxes, marketing, insurance, staff, everything.
It’s a challenge, but a fantastic way to live your life. So much more rewarding than working for someone else!
Hi Matthew, you are perfectly right that really
are some of the things only a few are thinkink
of or talking about. The best way is to be informed before they started a homebusiness and that’s the reason why i have an article about this topic on my website.
Thank you for sharing this, I do not think that people realize this! More people need to read this and when they fail at these ventures they try it is just because it is much more work than they realize.

Good post again.
I just wish I knew how you did it. I’ve been working online fill-time, since I retired (I work longer hours than ever before) and started my business in October 2004.
My friend great post, and how right you are….. Most people are unaware of what it takes to truly run a successful business whether on or offline. Having run both on and off line, I am thinking that you hit a major nail on the head. My suggestion to my clients is what I learned from a self made multi-millionaire client. Hire professionals and get their info from trusted adviser who have used their services. If you need a place to look for advisers or contacts check your local BNI chapter. It is a word of mouth group that really is great at helping you and each other grow their businesses.

I completely agree with you. When starting an online business, people often don’t treat it like a real business, and maybe this is also the fault of the gurus who never explain this in their ebooks.
You hit the nail right in the head.
Matthew, not sure exactly how I stumbled upon your site today, but glad I did. I’ve read a number of your posts and find your approach refreshing. I look forward to checking back here again. Curious to hear how your 2009 plans are coming along with Adwords.

The elusive book you are looking for:
Small Time Operator
Bernard Kamoroff
$18. USD
“How to start your own business, keep your books, pay your taxes, and stay out of trouble”
George - thanks for the updates. Feel free to post a comment here again when you have that info ready.
Luca - I definitely agree - online businesses are probably the easiest to start. However, that doesn’t make them easy, just easier…
Dr. John - Thanks! Hopefully others will be able to use that book to skip a lot of mistakes I made.

Hi Matthew,
Thank you for your concise primer on building a business. It truly require discipline, drive, and a hunger for learning.
Plus, the willingness to fail over and over again.

I’ve gone back to work to pay my online losses.
Luck of the draw, I suppose.
I’ll plod on. Something will happen
