A necessary apology

Wed, 16 April 2008 in General

Yesterday I posted a very serious topic about shift Internet marketing tactics.

While everything I said was 100% true, I feel that I should not have revealed the company that it was talking about as they weren’t necessarily an unethical company overall.

In fact, the point of my post was not to defame another company, but to make you (my readers, customers, subscribers, and fellow marketers) aware that while these tactics might give you a temporary increase in sales, they will only hurt you in the long run.

Also, the company that I mentioned has improved their sales process a bit, although it still isn’t completely where I would want it to be in order to be ethical (they still don’t really clarify how much you are going to be charged, they don’t tell you it is a limited access trial, and they don’t tell you about their No Refund Policy, unless of course you go and read their terms and conditions which are on another page).

The only time I believe it would be necessary to “expose” a company is if they were truly fraudulent, and not just using dishonest marketing.

I believe this company has a good service to offer, I just wish they would sell it better.

I don’t blame you for being upset with that company, and it’s not easy to decide whether to name names. But I think you were correct to reverse your decision to reveal their name. It may not have been intentional on their part, so it’s often better to give the benefit of the doubt.

I do agree though that there are unethical marketers out there, and I can sympathize with you as I was scammed by an e-commerce company, too. This was a different situation than yours (some high-priced ‘coaching’ that was worthless), but it really is a jungle in the e-commerce world.

For instance, a lot of companies who claim to be drop-shippers are nothing more than middle men for the true drop shippers. I learned some hard lessons in e-commerce, and in fact am no longer pursuing it as a business model.

I was able to find one reputable source for e-commerce information, but I don’t want to give a link here as it would look like a promo. If you’re still trying to pursue the e-commerce marketing, send me a private email and I can give you the (non-affiliate) link to the company to check out for yourself. You may have already heard of them before.
